Earth Observation Pure-Play Revenue

Annual revenue for the two public earth-observation pure-plays. Both sell imagery and analytics as recurring data subscriptions and government services rather than one-off satellites. Planet is roughly double BlackSky's size; both lean on government and defense demand, increasingly international. Planet's fiscal year ends in January, BlackSky's in December.

Earth Observation Operators

The main commercial earth-observation operators, by imaging type. Optical satellites take pictures in visible light and are limited by clouds and darkness; synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sees through clouds and at night. Planet runs the largest fleet by far; the SAR specialists (ICEYE, Capella) and the very-high-resolution optical leader (Maxar/Vantor) are mostly private.
